Aarogya Setu App Crossed 5 Million Installs in 3 Days: To Spread COVID-19 Awareness

A few days back, the Indian Government launched the Aarogya Setu app for Android and iOS. This COVID-19 tracking app uses Bluetooth and location to monitor your contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus. The Aarogya Setu app became India’s top free app on both Google Play and App Store within just three days of its launch. It also succeeded in receiving 5 million Google Play Store installs. The app allows users to decide whether they are at risk for COVID-19 infection by testing if they come into contact with an infected person knowingly or accidentally.

The Aarogya Setu app has over 5 million downloads on Google Play Store. Arnab Kumar, NITI Aayog’s Program Director of Frontier Technologies, tweeted that the app has managed to achieve nearly 8 million installs in just three days after its launch. The App Store doesn’t reveal the number of app downloads, but Aarogya Setu is at the top of the Health and Fitness section, apart from being at the top of the Free Apps section.

The Aarogya Setu app is considered the official source of all knowledge relating to coronavirus, and an effective resource for reducing the spread of COVID-19. The government allows it to be used by a variety of different means, one of which is schools. The CBSE has recommended that all schools and institutions encourage students, teachers, parents, staff, and other family members to install the app.

The Aarogya Setu app provides detailed knowledge about the risks, best practices, and appropriate COVID-19 containment advisories. All the information is reviewed by the Health Department of the government. The Aarogya Setu app supports a set of languages, including Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, and English to help the large population across states gain easy access. To those concerned with their privacy, the app asks to Bluetooth and Location access, and the app states during the registration process that “your data will only be shared with the Government of India. The app does not require you to reveal your name and number to the general public at any time”.
